A Santa Clarita resident who shares a home with several roommates says he was the target of an apparent hate crime. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Deputies were dispatched on a call of a vehicle fire at the home, according to a release issued by the LASD, and the victim, an African-American male, said he initially heard noises coming from outside the front of the home. In his driveway was "his 2009 Scion fully engulfed in flames."
12 Vehicles Set Ablaze in Los Feliz Carport Fire, Arson Suspected
A carport fire at an apartment building in Los Feliz left four vehicles destroyed and another eight melted, according to KTLA. The fire was reported early this morning in the 4500 block of Los Feliz Boulevard. Some of the windows in the above apartment units were blown out, though no one was injured. Woman Set On Fire In Hawaiian Gardens, Suspect At Large
Police in Hawaiian Gardens are searching for a man who "allegedly doused his girlfriend with a flammable liquid and then set her on fire," reports KTLA. Arson and explosives investigators were sent to the 11800 block of Civic Center Drive about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday evening where they discovered a woman had been set on fire. The victim suffered third degree burns on 60 percent of her body and is listed in critical condition at a local hospital. The suspect, identified as the victim's boyfriend, remains at large.
Around 34,000 Without Power in L.A. and Surrounding Region
Beyond the 11,000 or so affected LADWP customers in the city of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison is reporting that close to 23,000 of their customers are without power. The hardest hit area was Whittier with 2,366 outages, followed by Carson and Long Beach with 1,709 and 1,292 outages, respectively.
The utility said demand for energy hit its record peak usage for the year.
Molotov Cocktails Set Northridge Apartment Aflame
A Northridge apartment was set on fire early this morning after a suspect or two threw molotov cocktails at it, according to KTLA. The news comes on the heels of a Monday morning molotov cocktail attack in Long Beach, but no connections have been confirmed.
