  • TV Junkie: 'Trauma' Has a Pulse; Tivo Beats Leno; White Christmas

NBC's "Trauma", like a Monty Python sketch, ain't dead yet according to Chuck Barney at the Contra Costa Times. After trimming it's production costs the producers were given the green light to make 3 more episodes. We like the show (it's on the TV Junkie Plan tonight at 9pm) because: it's the only medical drama series with some action/cajones on TV right now; it's shot in our onetime home of SF and that location has become a character in the show; and it stars the talented and lovely Anastasia Griffith whom we interviewed at the Emmys and also a couple years ago about her work on FX's "Damages".

  • How Big is L.A.'s Theatre Scene?

Yes, New York City has amazing theatre. And lots of it, too. But what about the West Coast? We heard this one years ago: Seattle has more theatre than Los Angeles. And it's that little rumored morsel of "fact" that reared its ugly head again, which peeved LA Times' theatre critic Charles McNulty a bit. In a New York Times article, a former Pasadena Playhouse employee opines that Seattle "probably" has as much theatre as Los Angeles, despite being one-sixth the size.

    Box Office Review: More Moon!

Phony romance New Moon reigned over the box-office for a second consecutive weekend ($42.5M | $230.6M), though feel-gooder The Blind Side almost nipped it in the end ($40.1M | $100.2). Disaster-fu disaster 2012 held onto third place ($18M | $138.7M), just nosing out awful newcomer Old Dogs ($16.8M) and the sturdy A Christmas Carol ($16M | $105.3M). Ninja Assassin debuted to a solid $13.1M ($21M), topping mediocre kiddy flick Planet 51 ($10.2M | $28.4M) and...

Alice Cooper, Ace Frehley @ Nokia Theater 10/28/09

Forty horrifying years into his career, Alice Cooper is still sacrificing himself to audiences on a nightly basis. Not content to give his life for show business just once, in his current Theater Of Death tour, which stopped at the Nokia Theater, he endures a beheading, a hanging, and a blood-spewing run-through with a dozen swords. If it gets a raised fist and a “woo!”, he will spare himself from nothing.

  • Review: Living In Emergency

Photo courtesy Medecins Sans Frontieres. There are entire populations in this world that you simply cannot imagine. Not because their culture is so different or their location so astounding; rather, just because they are alive. On CNN or MSNBC or the Drudge Report or the Huffington Post, numbers get thrown around about ‘displaced people’ or ‘war-torn populations’. Numbers that (objectively) are big, but also too unwieldy; they cease to have any real context at...
