New TV Show Features Gay Ensemble Cast Living the Dream in 'DTLA' [UPDATED]

By Emma G. Gallegos on Jan 27, 2012

It's been three years since the "L Word" aired its last episode and seven since "Queer as Folk" finished its run, and some of the folks involved with those shows are pitching their a new TV show featuring a gay, multi-ethnic ensemble cast. The show's location and name is "DTLA," and its creators says it's like "Queer As Folk" meets "Swingers."

So far the creators have been able to film six episodes of the scripted show, but the self-financed project is asking for more mula on Kickstarter so that it can "complete post-production and a few pick-ups on the series" for its premiere in April. The creators have put up a trailer on the show that we've embedded above.

But before we go any further and get your hopes up too high, we should mention that the show is set to air on OUTtv, which happens to be a channel in Canada. That's right, downtown denizens won't be able to see the show set in their own 'hood...for now.*

*UPDATED 12/28: We got an e-mail from DTLA's Executive Producer Larry Kennar (that's also posted below in the comments) letting us know that once the Kickstarter project is funded, the show will be premiering in the United States in Fall 2012. We'll keep you posted!

  • The show covers a multi-ethnic, multi-econonical and multi-sexually oriented cast following the lives of these individuals who represent many aspect of non-traditional stereotypical genres. It's important to cover the topics that interests the viewers so, Mr. Kennar has done just that. This streamline cast not only gives you fantastic moments to view into these characters lives but they show you the ability to have a successful gay, straight, bi-sexual relationship and friendship that lacks in traditional television. Not to mention the drama is off the chain! You should keep an open mind and grab some popcorn because it's gonna be a bumpy ride with this new series...
  • Joy. Another gay series which ignores any gay man that isn't young, rich, and screaming. The rest of us will take a pass on it, thanks.

    Dear Emma,

Thanks for the coverage on our series, DTLA, and our efforts to complete it via our Kickstarter Campaign.

    I
wanted to update you and your readers on our domestic distribution efforts. We have
received strong interest from two U.S. cable distributors, and we intend
to come to an agreement with one of them pending the successful
completion of post production. We are confident that, once our
Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded, and our post production
completed, we will have the series running in the U.S. come Fall 2012.

    Thank you for your support!

    Best,
    Larry Kennar

  • Are we going to talk about the fact that one of the stars (or guest stars) is New York from VH1's "I Love New York"?
  • I love Tiffany Pollard! She's so hilarious! I cannot wait to watch this.
