Blogger Pinpoints the 'Good Day' that Inspired Ice Cube

By Emma G. Gallegos on Jan 27, 2012

Like most great discoveries Murk Avenue blogger Donovan Strain started with a simple question: just which date inspired Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day"?

The good news is his detailed investigation figured out that based on six clues from the song the good day in South Los Angeles that inspired him the single was on January 20, 1992. The bad news is the results of his investigation came just a week too late for a 20th anniversary celebration.

Donovan analyzed some of the clues from the lyrics of the song, and at the end only one day was left standing:

Ladies and Gentlemen..

The ONLY day where:
Yo MTV Raps was on air
It was a clear and smogless day
Beepers were commercially sold
Lakers beat the SuperSonics
and Ice Cube had no events to attend was…

JANUARY 20 1992
National Good Day Day

Big ups to the blogosphere (and, uh, let's hope he didn't make it all up).

Actually this date is pretty close to being right:

"...thinking will I live another 24"

So if he was 24 at the time... Birthyear 1969 + 24 = 1993. Maybe he took liberties for when he actually released the song for the following year. :)
